Powered USB Adapters Coming Soon!
Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming press release detailing the new Powered USB Adapter cards - soon to be available from StarTech.com!
Powered USB is a great example of how USB technology has evolved over the past few years; after all, when USB was first released, it was used primarily for end user applications that required a fool-proof way to connect peripheral devices (i.e. USB Mouse, USB Keyboard, USB Printer etc.).
Eventually, like any technology, the IT world saw the convenience that a hot pluggable, universal connector offered, and began devising ways to customize it to meet the needs of more robust applications. Powered USB, for instance, offers not only a USB 2.0 data connection, but also provides power for the connected peripheral - reducing, if not eliminating the need for external power supplies for USB devices such as receipt printers, signature capture devices and bar-code scanners.
Powered USB is an innovative step forward for the world of USB connectivity, in that it brings the technology into environments more geared towards industry and commerce (i.e. point-of-sale systems, factories etc.). We are pleased to be among the first to offer not only Powered USB cables, but also a broad assortment of I/O cards designed to interface computers with Powered USB devices.
