HDTV Up Converter

The HDTV up converter (also known as a DTV or Digital Television up converter) is used to convert digital data on a DVD to an image that can be displayed on an HDTV. While standard DVD players are designed to be used with standard definition televisions, prior to the availability of HDTV up converters, the signal generated by a DVD player would require conversion to analog, followed by a conversion from the standard resolution (480 lines/frame) to HD resolution (720 or 1080), and another conversion to return the signal back to digital.
