Glossary of Technical Terms

EPP/ECP are terms used to describe parallel signalling methods between a host computer and attached parallel peripheral devices, that are capable of much higher rates of data transfer than original bi-directional communication. EPP or Enhanced Parallel Port is used for non-printer peripherals, whereas ECP or Enhanced Capability Port is used primarily for printers and scanners. An EPP/ECP card is an I/O Card used to interface a parallel peripheral with a host computer utilizing EPP/ECP signalling methods.
