New Fiber-Ethernet Media Converter from StarTech.com is capable of drawing power via UTP cable connected to a PoE PSE (802.3af) power source equipment, offering an economical solution for extending an Ethernet connection from locales where additional standard power options are unavailable, over Multimode Fiber
Groveport, OH - February 22, 2010 - StarTech.com, a leading manufacturer of hard-to-find computer parts and networking solutions, today announced the availability of the MCM110SC2P Fiber-Ethernet Media Converter, powered by PoE (Power over Ethernet), which extends an Ethernet network connection over multimode fiber cable at a maximum distance of 2km. Because the converter is capable of drawing power from existing PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) in a PoE network, it offers the option to situate the converter in a locale that does not provide a conventional external power connection.
“With many new network configurations supporting Power over Ethernet, and legacy infrastructures being updated all the time, users can now take advantage of the convenience of not needing a power brick for their fiber extension and conversion needs” said Jon Arnett, Product Manager for StarTech.com.
“This product offers major convenience and value to network configurations that span large campuses or multiple offices, given not only its maximum distance capability, but also the ability to draw power over a PoE network.”
