Serial Port

A Serial Port is an interface or port that allows serial devices/peripherals to be connected to a computer.

The serial communication protocol allows one bit of data to be transferred at a time, in contrast to Parallel communications, where all data is sent simultaneously. Most serial ports conform to RS 232 or a RS 485 standards, and are commonly used with computer components such as mice, modems and printers.
