Overview

This USB-C™ to DisplayPort cable offers a convenient solution for directly connecting your DisplayPort over USB Type-C™ device to your DisplayPort monitor or projector, at up to 1 m (3 ft.) away.

The adapter works with USB-C devices that support DP Alt Mode, such as the MacBook, ChromeBook Pixel™, and Dell™ XPS™ models 15 and 13. It's also compatible with Thunderbolt™ 3 ports.

Seamless, clutter-free installation with your MacBook or HP ENVY

At 1 m (3 ft.) in length, this DisplayPort cable delivers a compact connection that eliminates excess adapters and cabling, ensuring a tidy, professional installation. Plus, the USB-C cable’s all-white design makes it an attractive accessory for your HP ENVY or MacBook with USB-C. If you're looking for a longer white USB-C to DisplayPort cable, StarTech.com also offers a White 1.8 m (6 ft.) USB-C to DP Cable (CDP2DPMM6W).

While the adapter looks great next to computers like your Mac and HP ENVY, it works with any USB-C computer that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, such as your Dell XPS, Ultrabook™ or other Windows® laptop. But if you're looking for a black cable to match your workstation, StarTech.com offers a full line of black USB-C to DisplayPort cables including: a Black 1 m (3 ft.) USB-C to DP cable (CDP2DPMM1MB), and a Black 1.8 m (6 ft.) USB-C to DP cable (CDP2DPMM6B), enabling you to choose the right color and cable length for your custom installation needs.

Hassle-free connection with USB Type-C

The adapter cable is easy to connect, through the versatility and convenience of the USB Type-C port on your device. USB-C is a reversible connector, so it doesn't matter which way you plug it in, the adapter will always connect, saving you the frustration of trying to insert it correctly when you're docking your computer to your workstation or office hot desk.

Astonishing picture quality with support for 4K at 60Hz

At four times the resolution of high-definition 1080p, you’ll be amazed at the picture quality of a 4K 60Hz monitor or television. This adapter cable lets you harness the video capabilities that are built into your USB Type-C connection, to deliver the astonishing quality of Ultra HD to your 4K display.

Plus, the adapter is still compatible with lower resolution displays, such as 1080p, which makes it a great accessory for your current home, office or other HD work environment, while future-proofing for 4K 60Hz implementation.

The CDP2DPMM1MW is backed by a 2-year StarTech.com warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Buy

USB-C is a type of USB connector that is capable of supporting the following:

  • Data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, if you use USB 3.1.
  • Bi-directional power delivery up to 100W, if both the USB host connection and the device support it.
  • Alternate modes, which deliver different types of data at different speeds. For example, DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode).

If using Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C, the connection is capable of additional features. For example, Thunderbolt 3 is capable of 40Gbps of total bandwidth. For more information, refer to the following FAQ: https://www.startech.com/faq/thunderbolt-3-port-capabilities.

Not all USB-C ports or devices are capable of supporting all of the features listed above, or all of the features at the maximum capabilities. If you require a specific USB-C feature, your USB host connection, cables, and device must all support the feature that you require. For more information about whether your components support specific USB-C features, refer to the information provided by the manufacturers.

This USB-C device requires that all of the following components support DisplayPort Alternate Mode:

  • The USB-C host connection (for example, a computer and its port).
  • The USB-C cable.
  • The USB-C device (for example, a hard drive docking station).

To check how much power this device requires, visit the product page, and look on the Technical Specifications tab.

For more information about the modes that your setup components support, refer to the information provided by the manufacturers.

Installation

This device is plug and play. It does not use any drivers, and does not require any setup tasks other than plugging in the source (for example, a computer) and the destination (for example, a monitor).

Troubleshooting

When you troubleshoot issues with a video adapter, there are some quick tests that you can complete to rule out potential problems. You can test to make sure that the following components are working correctly and are not the source of the issue:

  • Video cables

  • Video adapter

  • Video source (such as a DVD player or computer)

  • Video destination (such as a monitor or projector)

To test your setup components, try the following:

  • Use the cable, video adapter, video source, and video destination in another setup to see if the problem is with the components or the setup.

  • Use a different cable, video adapter, video source, and video destination in your setup to see if the problem persists. Ideally, you should test a component that you know works in another setup.

When you test your cables, it is recommended that you do the following:

  • Test each cable individually.

  • Use short cables when you are testing.

When you test the video source and video destination, it is recommended that you do the following:

  • Remove the video adapter from your setup and test to make sure that the video source and video destination work together without the video adapter.

  • Test to make sure that the video source and video destination work together at the resolution that you want to use.

Note: In order for your setup to work properly, the video source, adapter, and destination all need to support the resolution that you are using.

To output 4K to a DisplayPort display at 30Hz, your monitor must support the resolution and refresh rate. If your monitor also supports 4K at 60Hz (DP 1.2 or higher), you may also need to set the monitor to work at 30Hz.

To resolve this issue, use the buttons on your monitor to change the DisplayPort settings to DP1.1. For more information about how to change your monitor settings, refer to the website of the manufacturer of your monitor.

To output 4K to a DisplayPort display at 60Hz your monitor must support the resolution and refresh rate. If your monitor supports 4K at 60Hz (DP1.2 or higher) you may also need to set the monitor to work at 60Hz.

To resolve this issue, use the buttons on your monitor to change the DisplayPort settings to DP1.2. For more information about changing your monitor settings, refer to the website of the manufacturer of your monitor.
