Take it with you wherever you go

With its compact and rugged design, you can take this portable USB 3.0 hub anywhere you go. It’s easy to tuck into your laptop bag and only takes up a small amount of desk space when you connect it to your workstation. For portable applications, having the integrated host (USB-C) cable means one less thing to remember to carry with you.

Carry fewer cables and power adapters

This USB-C 3.0 hub supports USB Power Delivery 2.0 pass-through up to 60W to power and charge your laptop. Now, instead of carrying multiple cables and power adapters, you can use your laptop’s USB-C power adapter to power both your laptop and the hub. Connect from a comfortable distance

The 3-port USB 3.0 hub offers a built-in USB cable that’s long enough to reach your laptop or tablet’s USB 3.0 port, regardless of where the port is located. This gives you more desk placement options, which makes it easier to create a comfortable and space-efficient work area.

Add three USB 3.0 ports in seconds

This USB-C expansion hub is multi-platform compatible, which means it will work with a wide range of laptops. It also works with a range of operating systems such as Windows®, macOS, Linux® and Chrome OS™. It installs automatically once you connect it to your laptop, so you can be up and running in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Buy

It is possible to use some USB hubs without a power supply, however, doing so may prevent the USB hub or certain high-power USB peripherals from operating.  It is always recommended to use an included power supply with a USB hub when possible.

When a power adapter is not used on a hub that comes with a power adapter, power is drawn from the USB port on the computer and then divided between the ports on the hub. This reduces the power delivery to individual ports and high-powered USB peripherals, such as external hard drives, may not start.

On USB hubs that can use a power adapter, more power can be supplied to USB ports than what is possible with a single USB port.

If your USB peripherals require power adapters, they probably do not require power from the USB port and can be used on a USB hub without a power adapter. With USB peripherals that use power adapters, the USB ports on the hub are only used for data transfer and do not draw power from the hub.

USB peripherals that require low power (for example, keyboards and mice) can be used on hubs without a power adapter, in conjunction with other low-power USB peripherals. In this case, power is drawn from the computer's USB port, as described above.

USB-C is a type of USB connector that is capable of supporting the following:

  • Data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, if you use USB 3.1.
  • Bi-directional power delivery up to 100W, if both the USB host connection and the device support it.
  • Alternate modes, which deliver different types of data at different speeds. For example, DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode).

If using Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C, the connection is capable of additional features. For example, Thunderbolt 3 is capable of 40Gbps of total bandwidth. For more information, refer to the following FAQ: https://www.startech.com/faq/thunderbolt-3-port-capabilities.

Not all USB-C ports or devices are capable of supporting all of the features listed above, or all of the features at the maximum capabilities. If you require a specific USB-C feature, your USB host connection, cables, and device must all support the feature that you require. For more information about whether your components support specific USB-C features, refer to the information provided by the manufacturers.

To use all of the features of this USB-C device, it is required that all of the following components support USB Power Delivery 2.0:

  • The USB-C host connection.
  • The USB-C cable.
  • The USB-C device (for example, a hard drive docking station).

To check how much power this device requires, visit the product page, and look on the Technical Specifications tab.

For more information about the power delivery capabilities of your other components, refer to the information provided by the manufacturers.

Troubleshooting

If the USB device does not work after your computer has been in extended hibernation, it is likely that Windows has automatically turned off the USB Root hub to save power.

The steps below outline how to configure the USB root hub to stay on during hibernation, to prevent this from happening.

Windows 10 / 8

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
  2. Click Hardware and Sound, then click Power Options.
  3. Click Change plan settings for the plan you want to change.
  4. Click Change advanced power settings.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) next to “USB settings” and “USB selective suspend setting” to expand the options and change the setting to Disabled.
  6. Click OK to apply the setting.

Note: You may need to disconnect and re-connect your USB device after applying these settings to re-establish the connection.

Windows 7 / Vista

  1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.

Windows XP

  1. On your desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers by clicking the arrow to the left of it.
  4. Right-click the first USB Root Hub device and select Properties.
  5. Click the Power Management tab.
  6. Clear the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  7. Click OK to apply the setting.
  8. Repeat steps 4-7 for any remaining devices in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section with “Root Hub” in the name.

Note: You may need to disconnect and re-connect your USB device after applying these settings to re-establish the connection.

(5 stars) A great way to incorporate USB C

By:
I received this product in exchange for an impartial review. To begin with, packaging is a bigger deal to me than many people b/c I buy a lot of things only. I want packaging that protects the product but doesn't leave me dealing with excess boxes or having to use a blow torch to remove the prodct. This box is virtually identical to the one that I received an internal network card/graphics card in. Despite being small, the packaging is elegant, clean and the products are firmly situated inside of it. Now, to the product, I have two phones that need USB C cables. I also have two laptops that use C while the desktop that is in the same office as the laptops when I'm home, uses B. The very popular Samsung S8, Note 8 and Google PIxel all use C Cables and the cables require you to use a special plug. You can have the cable without a plug and it's useless. Most C cables that aren't from the manufacturer are very pricey. So using this, you can plug it into your computer and still charge your phone or transfer files. Moreover you can plug it into your computer and get 3 extra USB ports and one C port. Everything works great. I frequently note that StartTech's products are generally superbly well built. If you have any extra slack in the ports or any connection, over time that will cause problems. However some low end knock offs are too tight and you have to force the items in. This one, lets everything slip in snugly and there's no slack - nothing will slip out unless you are wanting it to but in the same regard, you won't have any trouble inserting things. This is a great way to give yourself a few USB ports and a C port if you need one. It's very reasonably priced and I'd say you get quite a bit more than you pay for.

(5 stars) Simple easy and works great

By:
If you are looking for a simple and easy to use USB-C to USB-A adapter then this is the product for you. I have been working in the IT industry for many years and with the introduction of USB-C this is a great little adapter to have. It offers USB-C to 3 USB-a adapters. I tested this unit with my Macbook Pro and it works flawlessly. I tried hard drives and thumb drives and all of my items worked without issue. The cabling appears solid and a good length for this kind of adapter. Overall this is a good little product with no real downside. I received this item in exchange for an unbiased review

(5 stars) Nice hub allows everything through one cable

By:
I have used this USB-C to A hub for a while with several devices and have has no issues. I have used it with laptops as well as cell phones and the hub as well as pass-through power work well. The device comes in a box similar to the size for what a network card would come in. The hub has a one foot cable to connect to your devices. There are ports for 3 USB-A devices and a USB-C port for connecting power. The light on the top indicates when the device is connected. I have used mice, keyboards and memory sticks with this hub and have had no issues with any of them. It has been very helpful to connect a USB flash drive to my Samsung Galaxy S8 and access the data all while charging the device through the single cable. The USB-C plug and slot both connect securely with a click to prevent them from coming loose easily. Trouble free operation and stylish product I am happy to keep using. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

(5 stars) USB 3.0 Hub with USB Power Deliver Made Easy

By:
I have been in the technology business for over 35 years and for the past 20+ years I have been asked to provide unbiased reviews of various products from both the AV and IT world. In review of this product I have found that the USB-C 3.0 hub supports USB Power Delivery 2.0, so instead of carrying multiple cables and power adapters, I now use my laptop’s USB-C power adapter to power both my laptop and the hub. By using just a single power adapter instead of two, I have eliminated carrying multiple adapters as I fly frequently, this is a huge space saver. In the box: -USB 3.0 Hub -Quick Start Guide In summation, solid product, easy to use. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.
