PoweredUSB

PoweredUSB (Also called USB PlusPower) is a term used to describe a single cable connection that supplies not only the data connection required for USB communication between two devices, but also two additional wire pairs to carry power from the host device to the peripheral - eliminating the need to power the peripheral device externally.

While a standard USB connection is capable of delivering a limited amount of power (up to 500mA) to connected devices such as a USB Keyboard or Mouse, it (standard USB) is not able to power devices such as receipt printers, signature capture devices, bar-code scanners etc., as they require more power.  A powered USB connection, on the other hand is capable of providing sufficient power to properly equipped peripherals.
