How do I set up my R300WN22OP5 in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS)?

You can set up the R300WN22OP5 in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

Note: Only IP-based networks can be used with a WDS.

If the unit is not brand new or the settings were previously changed, you should complete a factory reset. For more information about how to complete a factory reset, refer to the following FAQ: https://www.startech.com/faq/networking_r300wn22op5_factory_reset.

To set up the R300WN22OP5 in a WDS, complete the steps under the six headings below.

Select an appropriate site to set up the unit

The maximum range of the R300WN22OP5 is 10 km, but obstructions (such as buildings) may reduce the range. The R300WN22OP5 can be used with multiple WDS-compatible APs (for example, additional R300WN22OP5 units) to overcome any physical barriers that may limit the Wi-Fi signal.

Connect the R300WN22OP5

  1. Remove the plastic panel from the bottom of the R300WN22OP5.
  2. Connect the provided power adapter to the POE injector.
  3. Connect an Ethernet patch cable to the POE injector and the R300WN22OP5.
  4. If the R300WN22OP5 is not receiving power, move the Ethernet cable to the other RJ45 port.
  5. Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the POE injector and to your computer system.

Wait 30 seconds for the unit to finish restarting before you make any configuration changes.
