The USB110EXT2 USB 1.1 Extender enables you to extend a USB 1.1 connection over distances of up to 40-meters (131-feet) using standard Cat5 or Cat6 UTP cabling, bypassing the normal limitation of 5m (15ft) for USB 1.1 devices and allows for the host computer system to be safely stored in a remote location.

The USB Extender features a compact design with no external power requirements, making it the ideal solution for remote USB cameras, keyboards, mice or other input devices for environments where install space or access to electrical outlets is limited.

Able to deliver up to 300mA of power (when supplied with 500mA from the host computer), the extender is fully compliant with the USB 1.1 specification, with support for up to 12Mbps of data bandwidth.

Backed by a StarTech.com 3-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Applications

  • Secured environments where the host computer must be in a secure, inaccessible location from the the keyboard, mouse, camera or other USB input devices
  • Use existing in-wall Cat5/Cat6 wiring to extend USB 1.1 device connections between rooms
  • Reduce cable clutter and the need for mid-point USB hubs/repeaters by running a single, easy-to-install Cat5/Cat6 cable
  • Industrial control environments where the host computer must be located away from interference or contamination

The StarTech.com Advantage

  • USB 1.1 extender supports any full-speed (12 Mbps) or low-speed (1.5 Mbps) USB peripheral at up to 131 feet (40 meters) - a cost-effective solution for extending USB devices that don't require the higher bandwidth offered by USB 2.0+
  • Provides more power at the remote end (up to 300mA), without external power, than most other similar USB Ethernet extenders, for more versatile device connection options
  • USB over Cat5/Cat6 eliminates the need to cascade expensive, inflexible and space consuming USB hubs or repeaters for extending the range of a USB device

Troubleshooting

If the USB device does not work after your computer has been in extended hibernation, it is likely that Windows has automatically turned off the USB Root hub to save power.

The steps below outline how to configure the USB root hub to stay on during hibernation, to prevent this from happening.

Windows 10 / 8

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key + X and select Control Panel.

  3. Click Change plan settings for the plan you want to change.
  4. Click Change advanced power settings.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) next to “USB settings” and “USB selective suspend setting” to expand the options and change the setting to Disabled.
  6. Click OK to apply the setting.

Note: You may need to disconnect and re-connect your USB device after applying these settings to re-establish the connection.

Windows 7 / Vista

  1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.
  2. Click Hardware and Sound, then click Power Options.
  3. Click Change plan settings for the plan you want to change.
  4. Click Change advanced power settings.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) next to “USB settings” and “USB selective suspend setting” to expand the options and change the setting to Disabled.
  6. Click OK to apply the setting.

Windows XP

  1. On your desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers by clicking the arrow to the left of it.
  4. Right-click the first USB Root Hub device and select Properties.
  5. Click the Power Management tab.
  6. Clear the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  7. Click OK to apply the setting.
  8. Repeat steps 4-7 for any remaining devices in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section with “Root Hub” in the name.

Note: You may need to disconnect and re-connect your USB device after applying these settings to re-establish the connection.

USB Extender over Cat5/6

By: Starr - 07/27/2018
This is an awesome product for the price. It was as easy as taking it out of the box, plugging in the the extenders and the Cat5 cable. I was able to power a USB external hard drive through the extenders and played an HD quality .mp4 video across it from the hard drive with excellent quality and resolution.

Simple, easy and it works!!

By: macphoto1970_002 - 08/06/2018
This is a nice simple product that works and is easy to setup and use. If you need to extend a USB device over a long distance then is is a nice option. I have a printer that needed to be connected but the only option was to go up a wall and through the ceiling to the other side of the room. Well luckily we have cat 6 already in the walls so a simple connection and voila my printer was connected and had no issues connecting. I did try this in another spot as well but when I was at the longer distance I think it is important to use cat 6. The extra shielding in the cable makes a bit of difference but only in the long long use. Overall really easy and works. I wish this was a USB 2 or 3 connector but it does work for most devices although speed is not what this is intended for. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.
