Installation

This card is natively supported in all operating systems listed on the product page, under the Technical Specifications tab. This means that the card should install automatically after physically connecting it.

If there are any issues with the functionality of the card after installation in Windows, refer to the following FAQ: https://www.startech.com/faq/firewire-cards-windows-legacy-driver-swap.

Troubleshooting

When you troubleshoot issues with a FireWire controller card, there are some quick tests that you can complete to rule out potential problems. You can test to make sure that the following components are working correctly and are not the source of the issue:

  • FireWire cables
  • FireWire devices
  • FireWire controller card

To test your setup components, try the following:

  • Use the FireWire cables, devices, and controller card in another setup to see if the problem is with the components or the setup.
  • Use a different FireWire cable, device, and controller card in your setup to see if the problem persists. Ideally, you should test a component that you know works in another setup.

When you test the FireWire device and controller card, it is recommended that you do the following:

  1. Download the Microsoft Firewire 1394 Legacy Driver Installer
  2. Double-click to run the 1394_OHCI_LegacyDriver.msi file. This will extract the drivers to: C:\Program Files (x86)\1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)\
  3. Open the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)\X64_driver\
  4. Right-click on Legacy1394.inf and choose Install to install the drivers
  5. Press the Windows Key + R
  6. Type devmgmt.msc
  7. Click OK
  8. In Device Manager, expand IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers
  9. Right-click on 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
  10. Click Update Driver Software
  11. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  12. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  13. Click 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)
  14. Click Next
  15. (When Windows has finished installing the driver) click Close

Works Great on HP Zbook G2

By: Motophoto - 10/25/2018
I first bought the newer version with the Motorola chipset. No joy with my HP Zbook G2 which has a nasty reputation for now working well with newer expresscards. However, this model expresscard works just fine. As I write this, I'm using it to capture video on my Sonny HVR -AIN with Vegas Pro 15.
