(4 stars) Great with Macbook and Windows

By: Nick4201
Worked right out of the box with my Macbook. On Windows (USB-C 3.1 gen 2 connection), I had to reboot once, then it just worked after that. With the TB3 on Macbook, had full 4K on one screen, and 1080p on my 24" side monitor, all fluidly. All dock ports work/speed as advertised. Did not have any issue with the network as reported by a previous reviewer. On the Windows laptop with USB-C, I had dual 1080p screens. When I first connected to the dock, nothing was recognized at all (video, LAN, USB) except power. Rebooted the laptop, and then it all just worked. Didn't spend a lot of time on that. Solid build, great size. Included TB3 cable is too short though! Power brick is good, and small enough to tuck on the power shelf on the back of my desk. Critique: Another TB3 port, as well as 1-2 more USB-C on the front or at least one on the side. Same with USB-A ports. Need more than one on the front. Headphone jack on the front is MUCH appreciated, but the LACK of audio output on the dock (for dedicated speakers) precludes me using this as my full time docking solution at work (in and out). Should be OK for home if not going to/from all the time. WOL didn't seem to pass through to the laptop on this dock (it has on others), but I've not had the time to look into it. Have been using WOL quite a bit at work lately, so figured I would try it. Don't have a Linux box with TB3 or USB-C 10gbps to test with yet, but will soon. :) I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

(1 star) MacBook Pro 16 "

By: AEtherScythe
Not enough power (MBP says on battery) and doesn't support two displays at 2560x1440. I had get the power either from the MBP 96W power supply or my Promise Pegasus 32 arrays. I had to plug the second display directly into a Thunderbolt socket on the MBP or again via my second Promise Pegasus 32 array. This dock is under powered and doesn't work with two displays.

Matt, Customer Support
We apologize for the difficulties you're experiencing with our TB3CDK2DP. This dock provides up to 60W power and while it should provide power to the MacBook Pro, it may not be enough to charge the MacBook if you're using software that draws large amounts of power as the MacBook does support a 96W power adapter. The dock should allow two 4K displays connected to the MacBook as long as you're using the included Thunderbolt 3 cable and not a USB-C cable. We'd be happy to help look into why you're having these issues and help get the dock working properly for you. If you require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at www.startech.com/support where our Technical Advisors are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week to provide support.

(5 stars) WOW!!! Thunderbolt 4K Display Dock

By: GregStarr
I am using the new Thunderbolt USB-C Dual 4k Display Dock with my MacBook Pro. All I can say is WOW. Simple to install. Crisp Clean Resolution on the Monitors. Love the one USB-C cable plug in for data transfer and charging power. The data transfer rates are amazing. The USB charging speeds are great. This small compact box packs a big punch.

(5 stars) Simple clean dock

By: Dwardo1
This dock does what I need. Plugged in my Windows 10 laptop, keyboard, mouse and network cable to the dock and it all works well, at least after you plug in the laptop in for the second time. The first time I plugged in my laptop it did not pick up on my USB devices. Unplugged my laptop and plugged it back in and it started asking me for access on the USB ports. After that, it works every time I plug in my laptop with no issues. It's nice and small with a rubber pad on the entire bottom so it won't move around on the desk. It also has mounting holes if you wanted to mount it somewhere out of the way. It has all the latest connections like thunderbolt 3, USB-C and display ports. It even has enough ports to charge a device like your smartphone. I haven't tried a second monitor yet but this dock has the ability to handle two displays if you have dual monitors. The quality of this product seems very good. Has some weight to it and is well put together. It even has a lock slot so you can lock it up if you are afraid of it getting stolen but it is small enough that you can put it in your laptop bag to take home every night from the office. (5 stars) Works great with zero issues!

By: morty
I replaced my Dell TB16 with this dock and I'm glad I did. I had so many issues with Dell docks just not working or requiring specific versions of drivers to work. However, this dock just works so much better and has all of the modern ports you want and expect in 2019 like display ports rather than HDMI and USB-C. In addition, I didn't need to install any drivers as I just plugged it in via USB-C and waited a brief moment as Windows 10 picked it up and everything automatically just works. I've been using it for the past 30 days with my laptop and a 4k screen plugged in via USB-C and without a single issue. I used to have issues with Dell docks not working after my computer came out of sleep but this dock doesn't seem to have any issues with that. Would definitely recommend! It's a very minimalist design which I like. It's very sturdy and not cheap feeling. I'm using it to run a 4k screen with my laptop.

(5 stars) Ports Ports and more Ports!

By: ShawnO_24
This is a solid dock for laptop sporting Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C. The easy setup and clean design make this a beautiful addition to your desk without losing a lot of real estate. This dock has more than enough ports no matter what you throw at it; 1 USB-A port running at USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed that also allows you to also charge a device, 2 more USB-A ports on the back running USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds. 2 USB-C ports @ 3.1 gen 2 speed and Gigabit ethernet. VESA mounting holes on the bottom so you can mount it to a monitor or wall if you really need that desk space kept clean. It would be nice if it had an HDMI port but two display ports more than make up for it plus you can always get an adapter from StarTech if you need it. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

(5 stars) Excellent well made product

By: Henry0909
he StarTech TB3CDK2DP is compact and aesthetically pleasing; the black top and matte grey finish will fit in well with most hardware. It doesn’t take up a lot of room on the desk and its slim profile makes it easy to conceal if desired. The dock comes with a nice rubber mat on the underside of the unit as well as threaded holes which I would assume are for securing to a desk or underside of a surface. The unit comes with ample USB and USB-C ports, 2 of each on rear and one of each on the front along with standard headphone audio output. There is also Ethernet and 2 display ports on the rear, personally I would have preferred HDMI however I have a DP to HDMI adaptor so no real inconvenience. The USC-C port on the front of the device was used to connect to my laptop. I’m currently using a Lenovo Yoga X380 and the device charges my laptop at least as well as direct AC power from what I can tell. My device is on a locked down corporate desktop imaged with limited administrative access for the end user. One thing I did find with this dock was that my laptop did not recognize any peripherals connected to it. I tried my Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse combo to no avail as well as my $9 wireless mouse from Amazon. It didn’t seem to recognize either and I tried all 3 USB ports. This was easily remedied by just connecting my USB dongle to the machine directly however this is somewhat defeating the purpose of the dock. There is a “Thunderbolt Software” that appeared in my start menu after the device was connected but I was unable to access as the system deemed this a 3rd party application and restricted my access. I would assume if I had sufficient privileges I would have been able to configure the USB devices from there. I did test the device also connected to my personal PC, it doesn’t have a USB C input so I had to connect a USB to USB C cable I use for my phone but it worked and I could use the keyboard and mouse. I’m not sure if this was by design or if this was a happy accident. It doesn’t seem to push the software to my desktop PC so it might be that they’re running different versions of Windows 10. Overall the unit accomplished all functions admirably with the exception of the issues with my work laptop. I’d recommend this unity to anyone looking to power a dual display system where docking and undocking a laptop with ease is priority. It certainly reduces the amount of cables on the desk and makes disconnecting the laptop a breeze. I would recommend that anyone looking to use this with a PC where you don’t have administrative privileges contact their employers IT service desk for support to see if using it is a possibility or you might run into some of the same challenges I did. I’ve had the opportunity now to test a few StarTech docks and this is in line with previous quality and value I’ve seen. The products are well built and designed with a focus on simplicity and easy set up that is great for both the novice end users and expert alike. “I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.”

(5 stars) Great docking station! watch for driver conflicts

By: andrew11
I wanted to review this Docking station using my Lenovo X1 Yoga which is my work machine. I have 2 different docking stations at home and work and travel it back and forth. What I discovered is that the software/driver I needed for these 2 Docks is not needed for the TB3CDK2DP and caused Graphics and USB issues when connected. A quick call to Startech.com Technical Support confirmed that I should remove this driver (Displaylink) before connecting the cable. Now, I may be a unique case where I have multiple Docking stations already but i wanted to mention it to anyone who experiences issues when connecting this dock for the first time. Tech Support at Startech.com is excellent and they will help you out! The Dock itself has all the ports I need including a powered USB port in front which is very handy. It feels solid and well built with a rubber on the bottom (not just 4 small feet) to keep it secure on the Desk. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review

(4 stars) Works great!

By: nivek
I connected this to my Lenovo P1 Laptop with Windows 10 Pro. Initially the monitors cam up without issue but in order to get the USB and Ethernet to work I had to unplug and plug back in until windows 10 asked if I should allow it. Once I agreed to the Windows 10 question everything installed and worked great. The laptop is charging via the dock without issues and I can easily disconnect and reconnect without a problem. It has a rubber pad on the bottom to help with sliding but it is not tacky enough for my desk to stay in place.

(5 stars) Excellent Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station

By: JH18659
I have been in the AV/IT Integration space for over 30 years. I found this unit easy to setup and use on my Microsoft and Apple devices. The unit installs quickly with no additional drivers or software required, and is compatible with a variety of operating systems, which I tested. The unit includes plenty of USB 3.0 ports (3-A and 2-C) to accommodate up to five USB peripherals (1 Fast Charging A and 1 Fast Charging C) and includes 1 GbE port and 1 3.5 mm audio port. I especially like the single cable design, so the dock powers and charges your laptop. This is perfect for the road warrior and home office professionals. What is Included: 1 - Docking Station 1 - Universal Power Adapter (NA/JP, ANZ) 1 - Thunderbolt 3 Cable (0.7 m) 1 - Quick-Start Guide Note: “I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.”

(3 stars) Good potential, some flaws

By: MikeA
This dock was bought for a MacBook Pro for use in our office. It works ok except for: If you don't install the device driver for the NIC in the dock on the Mac, then when the Mac screen locks, the entire network will be taken down by a broadcast storm. Next, the display port adapters won't work with HDMI unless you get an "active" display port adaptor (which costs $3 more than a "normal" adapter.) The "active" adapter is not needed with display port outputs on HP notebooks so I can only presume you all cheaped out on the $6 extra cost to have the "active" part internal to the dock instead of needing a different adapter.
