Overview
This dual-monitor USB-C™ docking station adds valuable data storage and backup to your Windows laptop, and makes it easy to create a multi-monitor workstation through support for DP Alt Mode and DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST).
The USB-C dock provides a versatile way to connect to two DisplayPort monitors, a wired network and three USB 3.0 devices, while housing a 2.5” HDD or SSD for added storage or backup, all through a single USB-C cable. Plus, with Power Delivery support, you can power and charge your laptop as you work.
Add data storage and backup
Featuring a built-in 2.5” SATA SSD/HDD drive bay, this docking station gives you the added advantage of external data storage and backup, reducing the number of devices on your desktop. You can consolidate your peripherals, including external storage, with just one connection to your laptop. This reduces clutter in your workspace and simplifies workflow, making it easier to perform routine tasks like data offloads.
The 2.5" drive bay supports SATA I, II, and III. It’s ideal for creative professionals, IT executives, engineers, business executives and other professionals requiring high-performance functionality and external storage and backup, with Windows Backup, macOS Time Machine or other backup software. And, if you want to add further external storage, the dock has three USB 3.0 ports available.

- Video output capabilities are dependent on the video card and hardware specification of your connected laptop. Certain video cards have limited MST support, while some monitors will also limit the available resolution.
- Not all USB-C ports support the full functionality of the USB Type-C standard. Ensure that your laptop USB-C port supports DP alt mode, as well as USB Power Delivery.
- Not all Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports support the full functionality of the Thunderbolt 3 standard. Ensure that your laptop Thunderbolt 3 port supports USB Power Delivery.

USB-C is a type of USB connector that is capable of supporting the following:
- Data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, if you use USB 3.1.
- Bi-directional power delivery up to 100W, if both the USB host connection and the device support it.
- Alternate modes, which deliver different types of data at different speeds. For example, DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode).
If using Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C, the connection is capable of additional features. For example, Thunderbolt 3 is capable of 40Gbps of total bandwidth. For more information, refer to the following FAQ: https://www.startech.com/faq/thunderbolt-3-port-capabilities.
Not all USB-C ports or devices are capable of supporting all of the features listed above, or all of the features at the maximum capabilities. When you troubleshoot issues with a laptop docking station, there are some quick tests that you can complete to rule out potential problems. You can test to make sure that the following components are working correctly and are not the source of the issue:

To test your setup components, try the following:

Use the video cables, video source, video destination, laptop docking station, USB peripherals, and Ethernet connection in another setup to see if the problem is with the components or the setup.

If hardware acceleration is enabled on any of your software applications, it can result in poor resource management and limit the performance of your video device. If you experience this problem, you should disable hardware acceleration in the program(s) that were impacted.
To disable hardware acceleration in common applications and operating systems, complete one of the following series of steps, depending on what software application(s) or operating system that you are running.
Internet Explorer 9 and later
Note: Earlier versions of Internet Explorer do not use hardware acceleration.
- Click the Start button.
- Open Control Panel.
- Click Network and Internet.
- Click Internet Options.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Browse to the Accelerated graphics screen.
- Select the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering check box.
- Click Apply.
- Restart your computer.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open Firefox.
- Press the Alt key.
- Click Tools and Options.
- Click the Advanced icon.
- Click the General tab.
- Under Browsing, clear the Use hardware acceleration when available check box.
- Click the OK button.

Your laptop might not support Power Delivery or might have specific charging requirements. For example, if your laptop requires exactly 60W of power and an adapter consumes some of the 60W, your laptop might not recognize that it is getting enough power.
