Overview

Get ready for the future of universal connectivity and high-speed performance. This USB 3.1 card adds two USB-C™ ports to your desktop, with a combined bandwidth up to 10Gbps. With greater bandwidth, you can save time and avoid the performance bottlenecks often associated with other connectivity technologies.

USB speed chart that showcases the performance advantage of USB 3.1 at 10Gbps when compared to older USB standards

Because the card offers USB Type-C™ ports, you can rest assured your computer is compatible with the growing popularity of USB-C peripherals.

Work faster, with USB 3.1 performance

By adding 10Gbps USB ports to your computer, you can harness the speed of USB 3.1 Gen 2. You can access peripherals at twice the speed of traditional USB 3.0 devices. (USB 3.0 is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1.) The card delivers faster file transfer rates, so you can get more work done in less time.

With higher data throughput, this PCI Express USB 3.1 card is a necessity for external hard drives, hard drive enclosures, and many other USB 3.1 peripherals. Plus, the USB card integrates a SATA power connector to support high-powered devices, making it ideal for use with large external storage solutions.

Help future proof your computer, with USB-C

Because it offers two USB-C ports, this innovative card enables you to connect the growing number of USB Type-C devices today, or in the near future.

USB-C connectors are small, reversible, and easy-to-use. You can reduce frustration and the risk of damage to your ports by connecting the plug with either side facing up, making insertions easier than past USB generations.

The card is backward compatible with USB 3.0 (5Gbps) and USB 2.0 (480mbps) devices. You can add the card now in preparation for future devices, while still connecting your existing USB peripherals using a variety of USB-C cables and adapters.

Easy to install in different form factors

The PCIe USB-C card comes equipped with a full-profile bracket, but also includes a half-height or low-profile bracket, making it easy to install in full or small form-factor desktops or servers. And, the card offers hassle-free installation, with no additional software or drivers required in many natively supported operating systems.

The PEXUSB312C is backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Note: The card does not support DP Alt Mode or USB Power Delivery.

Applications

Deploy at home or in the office, and connect the latest USB-C devices, such as HDD enclosures

Install the card as a vital hardware component when building a PC

Upgrade an older PCIe based desktop from USB 3.0 or 2.0 to USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps)

Ideal for backing up files, video editing, and data recovery using high-bandwidth USB 3.1 Gen 2 external storage solutions

The Technical Specifications are poorly written. This is physically an x4 PCie card, but it is electrically PCIe 2.0 x2. Startech should update all their PCIe card Technical Specifications with specific information like that instead of the vague and useless info currently provided. The problem with x2 is that some old computer chipsets or CPUs may treat that as x1 which would half the performance, or quarter the performance if it is a PCIe 1.0 slot. You can find other cards that use a switch chip (x4 upstream) to connect both USB and eSATA. Such a card will perform better in a x4 PCIe 1.0 slot or a slot that does not support x2. The ASM 1142 chip has a problem where it reports the connection status of my device as 5Gb/sec instead of 10 Gb/sec but the device transfers data at faster than 5 Gb/sec anyway. Sometimes I have to reconnect the device if it reports as 480 Mb/sec (USB 2.0). USB 3.1 gen 2 from an Intel Thunderbolt 3 chip does not have those problems but no-one makes a USB PCIe card using that chip.
