(2 stars) If it would only work reliably on Linux

By: tuxwarrior
I bought this card especially because of its four USB controller chips in the hope that this could avoid the trouble I have with my StarTech PEXUSB3S4V on Linux. Unfortunately this card behaves even worse. There's a kernel bug report about this specific card (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199627) which explains the issue quite thoroughly. It's not StarTech's fault that the used uPD720202 USB controller chip gets such a bad handling in Linux but the end-user experience is really frustrating. I really hope someone at StarTech might have the right influence to improve Linux' xhci_hcd driver for this card because I really want to use it on my Linux box.

(3 stars) To big for teh backplate!

By: virgopunk
Great card in terfms of specs, however, I've found that having the USB ports verticle rather than horizontal makes it impossible to actually plus a USB device in. The back plate of my PC is too narrow. Now I'm guessing the gap is industry standard so I have no idea how Startech managed to get this product out there. In order to make this work I'm going to need to physically file the back port to make the gap wider.

(4 stars) Great card but StarTech needs to update drivers

By: ManglerX
I have purchased 2 of these now. They work awesome BUT after a system upgrade to Ryzen 7 CPU and a ASRock mobo that has PCIE 3.0 and 2.0 ports the card will only function on the 3.0 slot. my last PC 2.0 slot was not an issue. The drivers have not been updated since 2012 and Windows default driver is no good... it sees the card but says it cant start... HELP!

Stefan T, StarTech.com Support
Hello! Thank you for reviewing our PEXUSB3S44V card. We are sorry to hear you are having installation issues with the card. We do not expect this type of limitation, as long as the slot is a PCIe x4 or higher it should function properly, although it may lower speeds on PCIe 2.0 and lower. Based on your description, it sounds like it was working before and may be specific to this motherboard you have now. We would like to hear more about your setup to troubleshoot the issue. You can always contact our support team 24 hours a day 5 days a week at www.startech.com/chat or 1 800 265 1844 for any product related issues. A member of our Technical Advisory team will be reaching out to you shortly by email to assist! Thank you,

(3 stars) Great card, wrong port orientation

By: syn111
I bought this to allow additional peripherals. While the card is the best I found in terms of quality and speed, the USB port placement is terrible and it is impossible to plug anything into them unless I cut my case. An horizontal place would have been way more appropriate.
