This wireless presentation system is a video hub that lets you share the screen from your Wi-Fi® enabled laptop, MacBook or Ultrabook™ on an HDMI® or VGA display. It makes it easier than ever for users to collaborate and deliver presentations in boardrooms and office meetings, with intuitive controls and effortless screen sharing.

The presentation system features both HDMI and VGA outputs and supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 or 1080p. If you're looking to separate the audio from your HDMI video source, the wireless presentation system includes discrete RCA and TOSLINK audio outputs. As an added benefit the wireless video hub has a wired LAN connection enabling computers on your network that don't support Wi-Fi to collaborate, such as your media center or boardroom desktop.

Streamline your digital collaboration

The presentation hub can help you boost office productivity, by making it easier to collaborate and communicate. You can share and switch between up to eight different computers to view documents and multimedia content, which eliminates the disruption of each user having to connect and disconnect each time they want to present information from their laptop.

Make notes and share files

The system takes collaboration a step further, with innovative features that help capture in-meeting discussions and ideas. You can write and draw directly on the presentation content, or highlight important areas of focus with document markup capability.

The presentation system also lets you transfer documents to other meeting participants or download documents from cloud applications such as Dropbox, so you can annotate your presentation material then easily distribute the outcome of the discussion to your colleagues.

Bring your own device

With the video hub, you can turn your VGA or HDMI television, monitor or projector into a wireless display.

In Collaboration mode, you can use the included nScreenShare software to quickly and intuitively share your display between different computers. The software works with both Windows® and Mac computers, making it perfect for conference rooms and classrooms where different platforms may be used.

In Wireless Display mode, you can mirror any device that natively supports wireless display, such as your Android™ smartphone or tablet using AllShare Cast or Cast Screen applications, or your Windows 8.1 laptop, Ultrabook or Surface tablet. In Wireless Display mode, you don't have to install additional software, ensuring it will work for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) applications at your office.

Easier moderation

Unlike some wireless video systems that are difficult to configure, the wireless presentation hub keeps your meetings running smoothly with a simple and intuitive user interface. The software features a Moderator mode, which enables you to assign a leader -- such as a teacher, instructor or meeting head -- to better organize the session and control who is allowed to present and share their screen.

Note: This product is not intended for high-definition video playback due to wireless video performance limitations.

The WIFI2HDVGA is backed by a 2-year StarTech.com warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Applications

  • Enable your HDMI or VGA display to support wireless video
  • Install in your office boardroom, to enable your employees or co-workers to share each other's screens on a larger display
  • Use the Annotator feature to write or draw comments over the displayed content like a digital whiteboard

Installation

Starting in High Sierra 10.13, macOS enforces stricter security policies than previous revisions. As a result of these changes, software packages, like those used in this installation, will need to be allowed within the macOS Security and Privacy settings, immediately after the software has been installed, in order for the device to operate.

To allow the software, follow these steps after you've completed installation on your Mac:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Open Security & Privacy.
  3. Click the Allow button near the bottom of the General tab.

Note: The option to allow the software will be available within the Security & Privacy settings for 30 minutes. If the software is not allowed within that time frame, the software must be reinstalled in order for macOS to grant the opportunity to allow it again.

Troubleshooting

  1. The power adapter may not be connected at the correct unit or may not be connected at all.  Please check your product manual to see where your power adapter has to be positioned.
  2. An adapter to another video signal may be connected to the Transmitter or Receiver unit.  Please avoid any converters for the initial setup.
  3. The Cat 5 or 6 cable coming from the transmitter or receiver unit may be connected to a network switch.  Some of our video extenders will work in this configuration, but others will not. Please check your product manual to see if your model can be used connected to an IP network. For the initial setup, avoid connecting the Cat 5 or 6 cables to any network switch, hub, or router.
  4. The category of Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cables may not meet StarTech.com’s requirements. Ensure at least Cat 5, 5e, or six cables are used, and they have eight wires. Some Cat 5 cables only have four wires. If using Cat 6 cables, be aware they have more twists per foot, so you may have to use shorter cable lengths if using Cat 6 cabling between your video extenders.
  5. Bundling up the UTP cabling connected to the extenders can cause crosstalk, which will prevent the video signal from showing on the display.  Unwrapping the cable should resolve this issue.
  1. Please check to see if your model has an adjustable Gain dial on the remote unit.
  2. If it does, use it to adjust the color until it is acceptable.
  3. Replace the VGA cable with a higher quality cable like StarTech.com’s MXT101MMHQ.

This device's default static IP address is 192.168.59.254.

Before You Buy

You should only use video converters and extenders if it is absolutely necessary to do so. In many cases, most video converters and extenders are not necessary if you purchase the correct cable.

The following table lists the maximum length of cable for common video standards.

Video standard Maximum length
DisplayPort 50 ft. (15.2m)
HDMI 50 ft. (15.2m)
DVI 50 ft. (15.2m)
VGA 200 ft. (71m)

Note: StarTech.com offers cables longer than what is listed above, including active cables, which typically include built-in active signal boosters that allow for longer cables. Active cables are specifically designed to exceed the suggested maximum lengths and are tested at the listed specifications (for example, the maximum listed resolution).

Video adapters

Video adapters passively adapt a cable from one connector type to another. Video adapters do not change the signal type, or change the video standard.

Examples of common applications for adapters include the following:

  • DVI-I to VGA

  • RCA to BNC

  • Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort

  • Couplers (female to female, or male to male)

Note: You can use a coupler to extend a cable for a short distance. However, each coupler that you use can introduce signal loss, which degrades the signal quality.

Video converters

Video converters actively process and change the signal type from one video standard and convert it to another standard. They are typically used to convert digital to analog and vice versa, but can be used to convert a digital signal to another digital video standard (for example, HDMI to DisplayPort).

Video converters work over short distances from the source to the destination: up to 15 feet or 3 meters.

Video extenders

Video extenders convert an input signal to a higher voltage for transmission over longer distances and then convert the input signal back to the original video standard. The input and the output signal will match on a video extender, as the same video standard is maintained end-to-end. If a cable is extended with adapters or converters, the signal quality degrades.

Note: For more information on using a video adapter or converter with a video extender, see the following FAQ: http://www.startech.com/faq/video_signal_converters_convert_then_extend.

This device outputs HDMI video signals. If you have a display or video destination that uses another type of video connection, there are ways that you can convert the video signal or connection. These options are outlined below and organized by the target connection.

HDCP

When you consider whether to convert an HDMI video signal to another connection type, it is important to know if the media that is being converted from the HDMI video connection is protected by High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). If the media is protected by HDCP, you cannot convert to analog video connections because they do not support HDCP. You may experience this issue when you use devices like Blu-ray players, DVD players, and certain gaming consoles.

Exactly what I was looking for.

By: Rob1004 - 11/23/2016
Was looking for a way to wirelessly connect users to the training room projector without breaking the bank, and this does exactly that. I have it plugged into the LAN so any PC that has downloaded the software can connect to it. Alternately, users can connect to the WIFI2HDVGA's own built in wifi access point. Either way seems to work very well. It's also supposedly WiDi compatible but haven't tried that yet so can't comment. Software isn't the greatest. It took me a few minutes to work out Conference mode but quite straightforward and obvious once you know how. Also, when you want to customise things away from the default that things get a bit shaky. As a "for instance", I wanted to change its default SSID name to Projector, found out where (I thought) to do it, changed its name, pressed the appropriate buttons and... nothing! Currently, I can't find its in built WiFi but I'll reset it to factory defaults (when I find out how) and am sure all will be fine again. It's because the software isn't as slick as it could be and perhaps needs improving.that I'll give it 4 stars rather than 5 stars, although it probably deserves 5 stars as it does all I want it to and is easy to setup and use. As I type this, users are connected to it wirelessly over the LAN quite happily. Currently, very pleased and feel it's a good, reasonably priced solution for wireless connection to a Projector/large HDMI screen.

Insufficient User Guide and Support

By: Wasted budget - 06/15/2017
I tried setting up the device right out of the box per instructions, but the device keeps asking for a password to connect to the built in wifi. There is no password documented in the userguide. I even hit the reset button with no luck.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We hope we can help. Since this is not the expected behavior, please try a full factory reset. This is done by pressing and holding the button on the bottom of the unit for at least 10 seconds. You should see in the top left of the display an “!” with a “Factory Reset” message. After you let go of the button, the display should show an “!” with the message “OK”. Hopefully this helps. We also sent an email to you at the address provided with your review.

Great for the price but needs improvement

By: imworkinhere - 11/04/2018
This little box has a lot of great features for the price however there are a few set backs. -It would be nice if there was a better way for deploying the nScreenShare software. For example an msi package that can deployed through Active Directory or a web portal on the hub for retrieving the client. -For the wired connection it would be better if you could manually enter the IP or hostname information of the hub. When nScreenShare scans for the hub I get an error it couldn't find it and then when I acknowledge the error it finds the hub. The auto discover feature seems kind of buggy and I'd rather just manually enter the information. The auto discover also does not seem to work across VLANs.

Sam, Customer Support on 11/5/2018 3:10:12 PM
Thank you for your review of WIFI2HDVGA. We apologize for the trouble you had with using it across VLANs, and appreciate your feedback. WIFI2HDVGA is only meant to work within the same subnet, so the auto-discover feature in its software may not detect units across VLANs as you mentioned.
