4 User 16 Port Cat5 Matrix IP KVM Switch

4 user simultaneous remote management and control of up to 16 PCs, servers or KVMs at the BIOS level

Product ID: SV1654DX4I

0 stars (0 reviews) |
  • BIOS level control of the attached servers from anywhere over the internet
  • 4 connected channels at a time from: 4 IP users, 1 local user, and 1 remote console extender user
  • Supports virtual media and file transferring for connected servers (with the use of the USB 2.0 Interface Modules)

The SV1654DX4I 4-User 16-Port Enterprise class CAT 5 Matrix IP KVM Switch provides multi-user control of connected servers, devices and services connected through a local network infrastructure. Allowing a total of 4 independent user channels at any time, you have the freedom to choose a combination of IP users, local user and on-site remote console user (using a console extender device – SV5CONS not included) to access up to 4 connected systems simultaneously.

The IP KVM switch allows users to reboot the system, access the BIOS, install applications or operating systems, transfer files over virtual media, and have full control over the keyboard and mouse as if they are on site, saving time and resources by providing complete remote control of connected equipment.

Aside from a dependable and convenient operating platform, the matrix switch also provides features essential for secure and efficient management of mission-critical servers and devices - day in and day out.

Troubleshooting

Monitors may begin flickering when they receive a signal of insufficient quality. There are a few potential fixes available that will help to improve the signal quality in order to eliminate flickering:

  • Replace Video Cables with high-quality Video Cables (e.g. upgrade DisplayPort 1.2 Cables to DisplayPort 1.4 Cables).
  • Use shorter Video Cables to reduce signal attenuation.
  • When possible, remove Video Adapters to use native Video Connection Types (e.g. go from VGA to VGA, or DisplayPort to DisplayPort)
  • For DisplayPort Monitors, try changing the DisplayPort Version on the Monitor. For information on how to change your Monitor Settings refer to the Manual from the Monitor Manufacturer.
  • Update the Drivers for the Computer’s GPU to the latest available from the Monitor Manufacturer.

If the keys on your keyboard are repeating, complete the following:

  1. If the KVM you are using has USB ports, you can move your keyboard to the USB hub port on the back of the KVM (the USB hubs are marked).

Note: When you move the keyboard out of the keyboard port, you will not be able to access the hotkeys.

  1.  You can adjust the typematic rate in your operating system’s settings. Depending on the version of Windows you are running, you can adjust the typematic rate by doing one of the following:
    • Click Control Panel > Keyboard > Speed. Adjust the repeat delay and repeat rate until the keys no longer repeat.
    • Click Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers. Right-click Keyboard Settings. Adjust the repeat delay and repeat rate until the keys no longer repeat.

To resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Hardware and Sound.
  4. Click Mouse.
  5. Click Pointer Options.
  6. Clear the Enhance pointer precision check box.
  7. Click Apply and then click OK.
  8. In the KVM Bribar menu, click the Mouse Re-sync option.

To resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Mouse.
  4. Click Pointer Options.
  5. Clear the Enhance pointer precision check box.
  6. Click Apply and then click OK.
  7. In the KVM Bribar menu, click the Mouse Re-sync option.
  1. Set the mouse acceleration slider to one bar left of center.
  2. Set the Sensitivity slider to the lowest possible option.
  3. Make sure that your startup script (for example, xinitrc or xsession) contains the line xset m 0/0 0.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Perform a mouse and PS/2 or USB re-sync.

Make sure that the screen resolution (even in text mode) is at least 1024 x 768. Resolutions that are less than that can cause the mouse to not sync, no matter what is done. In Linux text-mode, setting kernel flags in your boot loader (for example, GRUB) will help to set this.

In order to resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. Increase the resolution on the computer to 800 x 600 or higher.
  2. To make sure that you have the latest firmware installed on the KVM switch, navigate to the web interface for the KVM switch and if necessary, update the firmware to the latest version.

In order to resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. Move a computer connected to the KVM switch to the port that the KVM switch is stuck on.
  2. Try switching off of the port again. You should now be able to switch the KVM switch off of the port that it was stuck on.

Before You Buy

Whether a specific mouse or keyboard will work with StarTech.com KVM switches can depend on the type of mouse or keyboard you use.  Any mice with additional functionality or keyboards that are not standard 104 key keyboards could cause issues.  This includes wireless, gaming, combination (one USB receiver for both the mouse and keyboard), and Apple keyboards.  We recommend that you use a standard wired mouse and keyboard with our KVM switches, especially when you troubleshoot issues.

If you cannot get a specific mouse or keyboard to work with your KVM switch, connect the mouse or keyboard into the USB hub ports, if available (they are marked on the back of the KVM switch). If the KVM switch has hotkey functionality, you will lose the functionality when using these hub ports.
