Does not sync sound with video

By: Spartan - 05/06/2019
I had high hopes for this video capture device, which is branded as being plug and play and easy to use, and while functions that do work are in fact fairly intuitive, after many repeated attempts seems impossible for this device to synchronize sound with video. The image capture is vibrant and bright, as strong as the source material record off the HDMI cable, is compact and runs off a downloaded software from the manufacturer that integrates with the device through a USB-C cable. The operational controls are fairly basic, though no instruction is offered, and it does take a while to figure out how the files are stored on the device. Though they have seemed to work out The video portion of the capture, the device fails entirely in synchronization. Effectively it is only good for silent film endeavors or narrative where synchronization is not required. I try to multiple sources stream sites from Vimeo and YouTube to direct taps from DVD players and satellite receivers and the problem remained throughout all test, in very short order the sound will lag behind the video and the longer the video the worse the synchronization issue becomes. What is truly odd is both the visual component and the audio component seem fine on their own. The video quality is good and the frame rate seems consistent, while the audio file is clear and does not seem accelerated, but the delay between video and audio grows with each passing minute making this device essentially useless. One can hope this is a software flaw there may be a remedy in the form of a patch in some future update, But one cannot rule out that the flaw is in the hardware. So I would not recommend this product until there is certainty of its reliability. Extremely disappointed.

Hello Michael, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you're experiencing de-synchronization issues with our UVCHDCAP. This can be caused by a lack of resources on the computer. Ensuring the power settings are set to "maximum performance" and not "balanced" or "power-saving", along with closing resource-demanding programs may help the laptop process the signal from the capture card so that this does not happen. If you need any assistance, we are happy to help and can be reached at www.startech.com/support. Our Technical Advisors are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week to provide support.

Did What I needed

By: Chuckman85 - 03/20/2020
Needed to bring a HDMI signal from a video switch and audio from a mixer into a laptop for streaming. Setup was a little flaky at times, but that may have just been the software side of things. In the end, I got the system up and running as needed. AV sync was good despite coming from two sources. Even used the HDMI pass-through to connect another streaming computer for redundancy. So far, no real complaints.

Hardware works ok. Software doesn't open.

By: Ken92592 - 04/14/2020
It works out of the box no problem connected to iMac 10.15.4. But the UVC Utility for the Mac will not open. It says it can't be opened when I try to launch it.

Thank you for sharing your review of our UVCHDCAP. Unfortunately, the issue you're experiencing is due to the software being 32-bit software and macOS 10.15 requiring 64-bit software, which is why we state in the Technical Specifications that this adapter is currently only supported in macOS 10.11-10.14.
