Chapter 3: DisplayPort Availability

The current version of DisplayPort (1.1a) was approved on January 11, 2008. Over 160 companies have expressed support for this standard, including companies such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and Texas Instruments. Many companies already have DisplayPort-enabled products in market circulation, and many more are expected to become available in the near future. All Apple computers (with the exception of the base model Macbook) currently feature a Mini DisplayPort connection for external monitor support, which is simply a miniaturized version of the existing DisplayPort interface.

As with all technology, the adoption of DisplayPort into a wide variety of products will take some time. It has been predicted that 263.3 million units of DisplayPort enabled equipment will be shipped in the year 20121.
