3.5in Black eSATA USB Trayless SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure

Turn a 3.5" SATA hard drive into a swappable external hard drive with USB 2.0 and eSATA connectivity

Product ID: SAT3510BU2E

  • Trayless design: drive is not mounted to a tray or the enclosure chassis/frame
  • Lockable drive door
  • 40mm cooling fan

This eSATA/USB Removable SATA HD Enclosure features a convenient trayless design that eliminates having to mount the hard drive in the enclosure, making it easier to access data on the fly.

Simply insert any 3.5in SATA (SATA, SATA II, SATA III) hard drive into the enclosure, close the panel door and connect the enclosure to the computer through either eSATA (external SATA) or USB. To remove the hard drive from the enclosure, simply open the panel door and pull the SATA hard drive out.

Because the SAT3510BU2E drive enclosure can be connected to a host computer through either eSATA or USB, you can rely on efficient data transfer speeds (up to 1.5Gbps for eSATA, 480Mbps for USB 2.0) and quick connectivity. The enclosure is constructed to provide a durable housing for inserted drives to prevent physical damage to the drives while in transit, and features lockable front door access for added data security. Large capacity drives (tested with up to 4TB) can be used to greatly enhance your computer's storage/backup capabilities.

To ensure a cool operating environment, the SATA HDD enclosure provides a built-in 40mm fan that re-distributes the heat build-up generated as a result of typical hard drive operation - which is especially important for large volume storage, and faster spinning drives (i.e. 7200 RPM), as it can help keep drives running cooler, which can preserve data integrity and the drive's lifespan by reducing the chances of premature failures.

  • Environments where drives need to be replaced/removed regularly, without external protection for the drives required after removal
  • Technicians who regularly test or benchmark different hard drives and need to swap between them
  • Create a fast, portable external storage solution for desktops, laptops or netbooks
  • Add-on extra storage to almost any USB enabled computer system
  • Backup important data to an external storage device
  • Share large files between computers quickly and securely without a network
  • Retrieve data from old SATA drive, or turn the unused drive into additional external storage space

The Advantage

  • Quickly and easily install or remove hard drives from the enclosure with the innovative trayless design
  • Efficiently access a high capacity SATA drive over eSATA or USB 2.0 connectivity
  • Backed by a 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support

Frequently Asked Questions

When you troubleshoot issues with a hard drive enclosure, there are some quick tests that you can complete to rule out potential problems. You can test to make sure that the following components are working correctly and are not the source of the issue:

  • Cables
  • Hard drives
  • Hard drive enclosure

To test your setup components, try the following:

  • Use the cables, hard drives, and hard drive enclosure in another setup to see if the problem is with the components or the setup.
  • Use a different cable, hard drive, and hard drive enclosure in your setup to see if the problem persists. Ideally, you should test a component that you know works in another setup.

When you test the hard drive and hard drive enclosure, it is recommended that you do the following:

  • To check Disk Management, press the Windows key + R, type diskmgmt.msc, and press Enter. Check to see if your hard drive is listed.
  • If the hard drive is listed with unallocated space, the hard drive needs to be reformatted. Right-click unallocated and click New Simple Volume. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reformatting.

Note: Formatting a hard drive erases all of the data on it. Make sure that you back up all of your data before you reformat the hard drive.

  • If the hard drive is listed as healthy but does not have a drive letter, for example, C:, right-click healthy and click Change Drive Letter and Paths. Click Add, assign a drive letter, and click OK.

Note: A formatted hard drive will not show up in Computer or My Computer until it has a drive letter assigned to it.

How To

To confirm that the Mac OS detects your USB device, complete the following:

  1. Click the Apple icon.
  2. Click About This Mac.
  3. Click More Info or System Report.
  4. Under the appropriate heading, confirm that your USB device is listed and that there isn't an error. For example, a network card would be under Ethernet Cards.

You may need to refresh the System Information page after you plug in your device.  To do so, press Command R with the System Information page open.

Your USB device is listed according to the name of the chipset. To determine the name of the chipset of your USB device, navigate to and look on the Technical Specifications tab for your product.
