Frequently Asked Questions

Starting in High Sierra 10.13, macOS enforces stricter security policies than previous revisions. As a result of these changes, software packages, like those used in this installation, will need to be allowed within the macOS Security and Privacy settings, immediately after the software has been installed, in order for the device to operate.

To allow the software, follow these steps after you've completed installation on your Mac:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Open Security & Privacy.
  3. Click the Allow button near the bottom of the General tab.

Note: The option to allow the software will be available within the Security & Privacy settings for 30 minutes. If the software is not allowed within that time frame, the software must be reinstalled in order for macOS to grant the opportunity to allow it again.

You should not upgrade your device's firmware if you do not have any issues with the functionality of your device. The only time you should consider an upgrade is if you are experiencing a problem with the device, and you have confirmed that the firmware addresses this problem.  You can confirm this is the case by reviewing the documentation included with the firmware or by consulting with our Technical Support team. Incorrectly upgrading firmware can result in diminished performance so it is best to contact if you would like to perform this operation.

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize for the difficulty you encountered with our product. We hope we can offer some assistance in this situation. If your computers use Windows 7, 8 or 10, you will want to install the PC-Linq software on each computer involved in the data transfer. Once installed, open the PC-Linq application on each computer and connect our cable. Once the Connection Status LED in the lower-right corner of the PC-Linq application turns green, you can begin moving files. If this doesn't help, we would be happy to look into the situation with you. To do so, please contact us through our live chat feature or call us, toll-free, at 1-800-265-1844.

Removed file time stamp

By: myemail - 03/04/2019
I thought 3.0 would be an improvement but the file date is missing hours and minutes. Plus who knows what does 'date' stand for, Mod date or create date or access date...ect

I use this tool for about 6 months and still admire it. Simply The Best in combination with NVME SSD! You should promote it more, because 99% of people don't know that USB-USB transfer is possible. It would be even better if could be used directly from Windows-Explorer, as virtual drive. Thank You very much and keep up the good work. Kind regards from Slovenia.

Too Microsoft Centric

By: MountainMonster - 01/12/2021
I have had one of these dual monitor laptop docking stations for a couple of years. Works fine as long as you are willing to remain on Windows. Because our business required that we make the move to Linux based systems, we have found that most of the startech products are worthless and completely unsupported on Linux. Keep producing boat anchors and you won't be around much longer unless you are trying to move towards the boating industry.
