Place your shared printer in a convenient location

With web-based management, you can set up and monitor the printer server through a web browser, so you can place your printer at any convenient shared location - there’s no need to put your printer next to your computer. You can send print jobs to another user in your home or office, or even to a printer in another country.

Easy to use and install

Compact and lightweight, the print server is easy to install with its straightforward installation wizards and remote web-based management. You simply use a USB cable to connect the print server to your printer’s USB port, then use an RJ45 networking cable to connect it to the rest of your network.

Supports LPR network printing and Bonjour Print Services

The printer server supports the Line Printer Remote (LPR) protocol which enables Internet printing. It also supports Bonjour Print Services, making it easier to find and configure printers on your network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Installation

To add a printer from the print server to your Windows computer, you need to use the provided software to locate the print server on your network.

Hardware requirements

  • A wired Ethernet network with DHCP (automatically assigned IP addresses).
  • A compatible USB printer.
  • A computer running Windows.

Install the hardware

  1. Use a USB A-to-B cable to connect the USB printer to the PM1115U2.
  2. Use an Ethernet patch cable to connect the PM1115U2 to a wired Ethernet network (for example, a network switch, wall jack, and so on).
  3. Connect a power supply to the print server.

Install the software

  1. Navigate to http://www.startech.com/Support and download the latest software. You can find the part number and product ID on the product packaging.

Note: Windows typically saves the files to the Downloads folder that is associated with your user account (for example, C:\Users\your_name\Downloads).

  1. When the download is complete, right-click the zip folder that you downloaded, click Extract All, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  1. In the list of extracted files, right-click the Network Printer Wizard Setup 2017 with Window 8.exe file and click Run as Administrator.
  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver software.

Configure the software

After the Network Printer Wizard is installed on your system you can install the printer. To install the printer, complete the following:

  1. Open the Launch Network Printer Wizard.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Select the print server from the list and click Next.
  4. Select the appropriate driver for the printer and click Next. If you cannot find the driver, use a generic PCL5/PCL6/PS driver or obtain the driver from the manufacturer of your printer.
  5. Click Finish.

Verify the installation

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Devices and Printers or Printers and Other Hardware.
  3. Right-click the installed printer and click Printer Properties.
  4. Click Print Test Page.

A printer test page should be sent to your printer.

If you are using applications that do not support print server software, you can use the web interface to configure the print server for your network. To access the web interface you need to determine the IP address of the PM1115U2. Hi Jacky, Thanks for letting us know about this. You mentioned moving to a new office. It is possible that with the office change, the server is looking for the IP address it was associated with at the previous location. Have you tried removing the printer from your system and manually setting the server up again? We have some helpful FAQs that may be of some assistance to you. They can be found here: https://www.startech.com/Networking-IO/Print/usb-print-server~PM1115U2#dnlds I have also sent your information to our Technical Advisors to get in touch with you via email to provide additional assistance. Thank you.

Same Problem as Jacky dropping off the network

By: StevenMBC - 06/19/2017
Bought this and set it up, it works for a few and then drops off of the network .. cannot ping it nor can I browse the server ... tried to set it to a static address and with dhcp and the same thing happens. Only solution is to disconnect the power and reconnect it. I had the same thing happen with two different adapters. had to remove them from the network and find another solution. :(

Mostly useless

By: Kristy - 03/21/2018
I have found the same problems with the device. Stays online for anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, and then all network connections stop working. Light still flashes, but has to be rebooted. The device is supposed to make printing easy to use... Having to explain to them that "before you can print you have to restart this device every time" is really unacceptable. I contacted support and their method to get me to test was to "Would it be possible if you can test the PM1115U2 on a test PC and have the print server connected directly to the PC’s Ethernet port without a network" I'm not sure what this would achieve. This is not how computers work. Unless I use a crossover cable; or do some other such messing around, this wouldn't allow me to print
